Joining forces on Nelson Mandela Day

18th July marked a special day in South Africa – the late Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday, making this year’s spirit for giving and ubuntu stronger than ever before.

As the South African Point team joined the rest of the country in contributing their 67 minutes to local, disadvantaged communities. The Nigeria and Kenya Point teams joined in on the charitable mission.

All three countries dedicated their time to assisting vulnerable babies, children and adults with the help of generous donations from both suppliers and clients to make the day a success for all involved.

What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.

In Johannesburg, over one hundred of the South Africa Point team spent the day taking shifts at Impilo Child Protection and Adoption Services fixing and painting the abandoned babies’ home, garden and jungle gym. Boxes of goodies were purchased and beautifully wrapped to say “Thank You” to the staff and caregivers of the infants.

The rest of the Johannesburg teams joined forces with their client’s initiatives. The teams joined Tiger Brands’ initiatives, sponsoring 100 packs of sanitary towels and helping to deliver donated televisions to Rea Leboga Community Centre in Zandspruit. Whilst the Reckitt Benckiser account team offered their hands and heart to Little Eden, an NPO providing life-long care to 300 children and adults with profound intellectual disability.

The Cape Town team were sandwich making machines, prepping 16kg of chicken breasts and 50 loaves of bread for the classic Chicken Mayo to hand out.

The team contributed their time, gifts and efforts to the Amy Biehl Foundation – a non-profit organisation that offers programmes to develop and empower youth living in challenged and vulnerable communities within the Western Cape.

The Kenya Point team made the day a little brighter for the children and young adults of Total Rehab Centre – caring for young people living with Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome in the local community. The team donated and set up 20 new mattresses and 42 blankets as well as hygiene packs for all, a small contribution which can made a world of difference.

400 children from Modupe Cole Memorial Home in Nigeria happily received food and daily necessities from the Nigeria Point team. This home and school takes care of special needs children from the community. The gifts of daily necessities were stacked high as the team danced and sang around it with the pupils.
