Future Builders: Celebrating the Strength of Women Who Overcome Adversity and Serve Their Communities

As Women’s Month kicked off, I found myself reflecting on the incredible and talented women in our global business that stretches across Africa and the Middle East. I have spent countless hours in our boardrooms, community centres, and Teams meetings, listening to the inspiring stories of women who are not solely surviving in their challenging environments, but instead they’re thriving as the architects of change. Change that has been needed for decades. Now, for me, Women’s Month signals a personal call to action.

For me, it is a time to honour the strength that flows through our regions, from the buzzing markets of Lagos to the innovative business hubs found in Dubai. It reminds me that empowerment should not merely be a buzzword, but instead the quiet revolution that is taking place in our offices, at home, and in our hearts, each day.

Here at Point, this revolution is woven into the very fabric of all our day-to-day operations. We firmly believe in fostering resilience and service, and our methodology has been inspired by the extraordinary courage of all women across our continent and the Middle East who, on a daily strive to conquer their everyday battles for their safety, education, and sustenance.

It’s their stories of perseverance, where they risk everything to uplift others as opposed to seeking out accolades, that truly embody this true strength. So, for the remainder of this Women’s Month, I call on you to draw inspiration from their greatness and celebrate all women’s unwavering spirit, the spirit that supports their families, communities, and society through their selfless acts of service.

The Power of Mentorship: Lighting the Way for One Another

Mentorship found within our organisation at Point goes above and beyond and transcends professional tools; we believe it is a human connection that shapes and changes lives. I have witnessed women at every level stepping up to the plate to guide their co-workers, share their knowledge and wisdom, and offer support during challenging times.

It’s these acts of quite courage that help shape careers and bolster confidence, whether it’s a new intern finding her way or an executive navigating the complexities of leadership. Mentorship in this fashion creates a profound ripple effect, which ultimately strengthens people and even entire teams.

When co-workers share their stories and experiences in overcoming setbacks, they actually inspire others to try harder, grow, and believe in their abilities. And it is this guidance that nurtures spaces where vulnerability and strength can coexist, turning these lessons learned in adversity into the foundation of collective success.

Career Development: Building Bridges for Opportunities

For the women at Point, career development is not only about their personal achievements, but also about fostering stability, opportunity, and real impact that extends far beyond our workplace. Many of my co-workers wear many hats, juggling several roles, driving their projects forward while supporting their family responsibilities, as well as contributing to their communities. It is their resilience and commitment that truly inspire us, giving us friendly reminders that growth is a collaborative journey that benefits everyone involved.

Through our training programs, skill development, and the challenging briefs we take on, we have witnessed women take on new challenges head-on, with unwavering determination, mastering new systems, leading the way on complex projects, and mentoring emerging talent.

It is these moments of growth that enhance not only their respective careers, but also further strengthen their communities and families that feel the powerful impact of this empowerment. When our women thrive, their influence ripples out, sparking ambition and endless possibilities in those around them.

Pathways to Leadership: Leading Through Service and Strength

Here at Point, leadership arises from a deep commitment to the well-being of others. Here, women step into their leadership roles, not for recognition, but to protect, guide and uplift others around them. They lead cross-regional projects, navigate their teams through change, and advocate strongly for improved working processes, while remaining grounded in service and a firm belief that success is meant to be shared.

These pathways to leadership are robust as they are built upon empathy, collaboration, and an unwavering focus on the collective good. Women at Point show us that leadership means being the voice that ensures that everyone is heard, they provide the hand that pulls others up and are the presence that holds a team together in times of uncertainty.

It’s their impact that extends far beyond our company, into homes, communities and networks, fostering lasting and positive change.

A Call to Arms to Build a Brighter Future, Together

That’s why this Women’s Month, we celebrate these talented, powerful women who shape our business, strengthen our communities and provide inspiration to our families. Their influence is evident in every mentoring conversation, every skill they have shared, and every act of leadership where these contributions are recognised, valued and ultimately amplified.

But celebration alone is not enough; we have the responsibility to build. And building a better future goes far beyond merely applauding success stories; it entails creating better conditions for more to flourish. It’s all about making sure that every woman has the proper support and resources that she needs to thrive. So, together, let’s build a more inclusive and empowering future for all.
